2015 Calendar of Events

 

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month—After the death of their young grandson Justice, Michelle and Bobby Spessard began to raise awareness of the issue of child abuse.  Since Justice’s, death Michelle and Bobby along with committed volunteers organize various events during the month of April in recognition of the awareness month.

The Issue—According to the 2013 Pennsylvania Department of Welfare Annual Child Abuse Report, 26,944 reports of suspected child and student abuse were received, an increase of 280 reports from 2012.  Of the substantiated reports of abuse, the living arrangement of the child at the time of abuse was highest for children living with a single parent. These reports represented 42 percent of all substantiated reports. The second-highest living arrangement was children living with two parents, or 34 percent of substantiated reports. In 2013, 38 Pennsylvania children died from abuse.

Month of April—The parking meters in downtown Greencastle will display a blue ribbon in recognition of the awareness month.

April 1, 2015 at 10: 00 a.m.The Mayor of Greencastle will proclaim April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.  This proclamation will be held at the post office and the community is invited to attend.

April 19, 2015 at 1:00  p.m.A PaddleMania fundraiser will be held at Shady Grove Community Center.  Tickets are  $5.00 and you receive 2 paddles—Opportunity to purchase more at the door.  For more information contact Bobby Spessard  at 301.992.6871 or blueribbons4justice@gmail.com.

April 3, 11, 24, 2015—The Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Chambersburg will be donating a portion of sales to BlueRibbons4Justice.

Aprill 15, 2015—The Pizza Hut in Greencastle will be donating a portion of sales to BlueRibbons4Justice.

All community members are encouraged to think blue during this month to show support and raise awareness of child abuse.  People can wear blue, change their front porch lights blue, or even create a blue ribbon tree in their yards!
